How many times do you look at yourself in a mirror every day? Probably many, many times since they are often hanging all over our homes and in our public restrooms, etc. What are you thinking about each time you look in a mirror?
I recently watched an incredibly uplifting home video on YouTube featuring a little girl who is exclaiming into a mirror about all the things and people that she loves and all the things she has the power to do. Since YouTube links don’t always cooperate, I thought I would just send you to the site to search “Jessica’s Daily Affirmation”. Be sure to come back here after you watch it!

Now, isn’t that just the darn cutest thing you’ve ever seen? Gotta love how uninhibited children are, right? My spirits were soaring after seeing this video, and I felt empowered. So I posted it on my Facebook wall, and lots of my friends loved it as well, but also said that they could never be that candid when looking in a mirror.
Sure you can!
Let’s first take a moment to look at the definition of an affirmation, or the verb, affirm:
2 : to assert (as a judgment or decree) as valid or confirmed
3 : to express dedication to <affirm life>
So I could simplify this definition as follows:
An affirmation is an assertively spoken positive statement.
I dug through my journals to find a list of some optimistic statements that I put together back in July 2008 after reading The Secret, which is all about manifesting your dream life with positive thinking (the law of attraction).
Here are my favorites from the list:
I embrace this moment.
I connect effortlessly with others who walk a similar path.
The universe brings all amazing things to me.
I praise and bless every square inch of my body.
I live in abundance and can afford anything I want.
Every part of my body functions perfectly.
I radiate joy and commit myself to discovering my joy!
Magic and miracles flood my life, and I experience heaven on earth every day!
I truly believe in the power of intention- that thoughts create our reality. This idea can take many twists and turns, but the simplest summation is that thinking and feeling positive will create an abundantly fulfilled life for you. So next time you are looking into a mirror, rather than whining about how you wish your hair looked different or frowning at a blemish (we’ve all been there!), make an affirmation to yourself. See if, when you say it aloud, you stand up a little straighter. Maybe a small smile will appear on your lips (even if it’s there cuz you feel goofy!). I encourage you to say an affirmation every time you look into a mirror. Make it a habit. Good things will come of this simple practice, I assure you! Just ask Jessica…

Dude, my friends and I talk about The Secret CONSTANTLY. In a half-jokey, half-completely serious way. We talk about manifesting amazing things for ourselves and each other thanks to the power of delusionally positive thinking. Not thinking about things we want, but actually experiencing the joy of already having them. It’s brilliant and works so much more often than not. Great to hear you reference it.
My daily affirmation is “You are awesome, and you have a positive impact on those around you.” Simple, but effective.
Dude- I think we (sometimes I do it, too) joke about the law of attraction because the idea is a powerful one and it scares us. Sometimes it’s easier to laugh at our fears than face them, right? Thank you for sharing your personal affirmation- very inspiring!!
