What’s your motivation to practice yoga?
What’s that something-something that gets you onto your mat day after day?
Your spark.
Really think about it. Spend a few moments reflecting on what it is about yoga that keeps you coming back for more…
We all have those days when we feel sluggish and worn out, and the last thing we want to do is change into yoga clothes, lug our mat and a big ol’ bottle of water over to the studio, and then be told to do really challenging poses by a teacher. Am I right?
I remember a few years ago when I used to call my Mum every time that I had one of those whining ”But I don’t WANNA!” days, and she would always somehow convince me to get my butt in gear and go to class. Obviously she couldn’t force me to go, but she would gently remind me how amazing I feel after practicing and that would be enough of a nudge to get me moving. (Thanks, Mum!)
But sometimes there’s nobody around to tell us to go or remind us why we need to go. So we all need to find that special thing that will inspire us to keep up with it. And it’s different for each of us, so I can’t tell you what your particular spark is (sorry!). You could be inspired by the stress relief or by the deep breathing or the really good workout and detox. There are countless reasons to do yoga, so pick one (or more), and then DO YOGA! The yogi that brought Ashtanga yoga to the Western world, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, knew what he was talking about when he said, “Do you practice, and all is coming.”
What’s your yoga spark?
Choose love,
Grace
One more thing: My college friend and fellow yogini, Taber, is creating a yoga website for her master’s thesis. Her main goal is to “create a site that will inspire and serve as a resource for people who may not be aware of the amazing benefits of practicing yoga”. If you are interested in contributing your yoga story to this project (she’ll send you a brief form to fill out with the info she is looking for), please contact Taber directly at taber.lightfoot@gmail.com.
