Meditation Idea: Affirmation
Louise L. Hay is one of my favorite healers. Lucky for us, she shared some of her healing wisdom in her book “You Can Heal Your Life,” which is my go-to reference whenever I have any aches and pains in my body. In the book, “she explains how limiting beliefs and ideas are often the cause of illness, and shows how you can change your thinking- and improve the quality of your life!” Simply, our thoughts can cause pain in our bodies. For example, something as simple as a headache stems from invalidating or making yourself wrong in some way. The new, affirming thought pattern she suggests is: “I love and approve of myself. I see myself and what I do with eyes of love. I am safe.” The book helps me to dig deeper behind physical problems, uncover the limiting belief, and then shift into a new, more positive way of thinking. Self healing doesn’t always happen overnight, but it has made a difference in my life for sure.
Years ago I received a deck of cards with affirmations created by Ms. Hay called “Power Thought Cards.” At the beginning of some of my yoga classes I have my students choose a card from the deck to help them set an intention for their practice. Have you ever had a teacher ask you to set an intention at the beginning of class, and your mind goes totally blank? You can’t think of anything at all to focus on. These cards take some of the pressure off, especially at the end of a busy day where you’ve done nothing but think all day long!
Please don’t feel like you have to go out and buy this deck of cards. Ms. Hay’s website offers a new affirmation each day, so feel free to sift through those and find one that resonates with you. Perhaps your favorite author has a quote or passage from a book that would inspire you during your next meditation? Just pick one idea, and sit with it.
Please let me know if this meditation idea helps you!
