Simply, I Love Yoga
I was hooked after my first sun salutation. I love the way it quiets my mind by bringing me out of my head and inside my body. I love the strength and flexibility I gain from my daily practice. I love how I feel when I am flowing between postures. And I know from personal experience that the best teachers to learn from are the ones who are the most passionate about their craft. I connect with my students through creativity, curiosity, and compassion. I see myself in them, and this makes me a better teacher.
Creativity & Curiosity
I am curious and love to learn, so my classes continue to be fresh and inspirational; whether this is through readings of poetry or quotes at the beginning and/or end of class, or through the language that I use as I am teaching. I love to have fun, so I incorporate lots of smiles in my classes. I give students the freedom to express themselves in their own bodies, allowing creativity on the mat. I embrace teaching new poses and supporting students as they reach for their edge. I encourage students to use their imagination when practicing and embrace the process of discovery and exploration.
Compassion
I remember what it was like to be afraid to go to my first class and feel silly, overwhelmed, and mystified, so I welcome beginners with compassionate, open arms. I break the postures down into simple instructions that are easy to follow. I respect every person’s body and give minimal physical adjustments very gently. I stress the importance of safety in my classroom by encouraging compassion for self and others. I honor the limitations (injury, tightness, etc) of my students as I support them on their path of transformation.
Connection
I connect with my students by inspiring and supporting them. I am a natural cheerleader and coach. While I am teaching, I constantly reassure and motivate my students to keep up the great work: “You can do it!” “Stay strong!” And although I lead an inspirational class, I impress upon yogis that the answers to all of their questions are inside of themselves (embrace the inner teacher!).
It is a gift to be able to explore this ancient practice with others. I am so grateful for the trust that my students have in me. I learn something new and exciting everyday, and with that fresh perspective, I bring light and love into my teaching. I am a healer, and my healing modality is yoga. I find joy in sharing this enlightening tradition and encouraging others to find the holistic balance in their lives: the bridges between mind, body and spirit.
Namaste.
